( CHARACTER ★ INFORMATION )

NAME & AGE: Arwen Undomiel & approx. 2,770 years old
CANON & CANON POINT: Lord of the Rings & Right after she sends the banner for Aragorn with her brothers before he takes the Paths of the Dead.

CANON INFORMATION: Wiki Link, Wiki Link 2, and Wiki Link 3.

PERSONALITY:
Arwen had a fairly privileged upbringing, only daughter to the Lord and Lady of Imladris. She was raised knowing her place and stature, everything reflected in her mannerisms and way of speaking. She is well-mannered and respectful, accustomed to being met with the same level of respect she puts forth. Her life has been somewhat sheltered, mainly under the protection of her older twin brothers - her knowledge of the world around her coming from what she's learned from songs and lore.

She not only understands the power of quiet reflection, but also the value of nights in the Hall of Fire. Listening to the songs and stories and enjoying the revelry. A great driving force for her yearning for knowledge are her inquisitive mind and powers of observation. There's a youthful curiosity to her, always wanting to know more and build her pool of knowledge.

With her sheltering comes an almost lack of interaction with the other races in Middle Earth, other than her exposure to Aragorn and his mother when they arrived in Rivendell and she was there briefly before returning to Lothlorien. Though it doesn’t diminish her curiosity to learn about other cultures within Middle Earth, it does limit her previous interactions. There is no canon support to her full exposure and interactions other than brief encounters before she becomes a Queen. She’s incredibly kind, though, and in her brief encounters has never shown any hostility or prejudice to the other races she’s encountered. Through her studies and the example set by her father, she is open minded to forming new opinions about others - learning about their cultures rather than turning a blind eye.

In terms of her interactions with elves that are not part of her family, there would be an ease to it - a comfort to being around her own kind. Having spent so much time in Lothlorien, she would not have an issue interacting with elves that do not hail from Imladris - not only from her exposure to other elves, but also teachings of diplomacy and respect. There’s also an inherent respect built in to how she would conduct herself around those older than her. Although, with the forsaking of her immortality, the reactions of other elves could vary so it’s not something she’d openly discuss. She also wouldn’t be embarrassed by it as it is a choice her bloodline can make, a choice she’d make again and again.

As the daughter of Elrond, she has a keen mind and a vast knowledge base. She is wise, not only from age but her upbringing - well-versed in the lore of her land. She is introverted for the most part, especially when around others she is not familiar with, only showing the sharper side of her tongue to her brothers. Otherwise, she is more keen to listen than speak, lending an ear when needed. The only ones she truly opens up to are her family and her beloved, Aragorn. She doesn’t have to maintain a formality in their interactions, able instead to truly be herself and let her guard down. Open up to them about her concerns and fears, her hopes. Through this trust, she’s more confident, able to openly defy her father’s wishes - stand on her own two feet and make her own choices rather than letting them choose her life for her.

Arwen is a beacon of hope for many - her faith unwavering. She works tirelessly on the banner for Aragorn, and though she could not be with him through his journey - he remains on the forefront of her mind. Even with her father's prompting, her faith does not waiver - never once doubting that the Fellowship would fail. Her choice to forsake her immortality seals her fate, no matter the outcome of the war - she will die. It is only a matter of when and how.

She also has an incredible capacity to love. She gains strength from it, helping her come to terms with her decision to forsake her immortality. Her love helps rather than holding anyone back, pushing Aragorn to complete the journey - giving him strength in times of darkness. There is a gentleness that accompanies her love, though it should never be mistaken for weakness.

“It is mine to give to whom I will, like my heart.”

On the other side of her hope and capacity to love, is her incredible stubbornness. Once she has made a choice, she sticks to it - little to nothing being able to sway her. That is not to say she will not listen to another's opinion, but the odds of it making a large impact are slim. She did not give in to her own father when her life was slipping away from her due to the war. If her resolve had been any less, she would have sailed to Valinor and would not have been able to help Frodo with his own troubles or married Aragorn.

“For I am the daughter of Elrond.
I shall not go with him when he departs to the Havens:
for mine is the choice of Luthien,
and as she so have I chosen,
both the sweet and the bitter.”

She is the definition of selflessness. She forsook her immortality for the love of her life. The cost of this almost incomprehensible - she has given up the chance to ever see her mother again, her father, her people, everything she has ever known and held value to related to her heritage. All for the love of one man. To further this, she gives up her place on the ship to Valinor for Frodo because she can see how much pain he's still in. Frodo rarely talked about his suffering, showing just how perceptive she truly is. She does this act for him without a second thought or objection.

It takes an incredible amount of bravery to see her choice through. Considering she's already a little over 2,700 years old - her time with Aragorn (about 60 years) would have passed in a flash... The concept of death is something that most elves never have to fathom. She knows she will outlive Aragorn, be left to walk the world without him until heartbreak takes her. It is a daunting thought, but she does not waver. If she were put in that position again and made to choose - she would not change her decision.

COURT ALLIANCE & REASONING:
After some thought, I can’t help but agree that she would actually be Unseelie. While she values the beauty of the world around her, she put her own happiness before her duties - forsaking her immortality for Aragorn. While her actions weren’t impulsive in a human timespan, 30 years to an elf passes in the blink of an eye. Becoming mortal is one of the biggest changes an elf can undergo, one she has the luxury of due to her lineage. Her stubbornness feeds into this as well, having made the decision and rather than obey her father - following his request for her to leave Middle Earth as the evil poisoned her body, she stayed out of her hope that good would prevail. She stayed for love rather than being a dutiful daughter and sailing to the undying lands to be with her family as the time of Elves came to a close. Family she would never get to see again in the end due to her choices. Even though they were done in a selfless manner, not only for Aragorn, but also Frodo - they were originally rooted from a selfish decision to choose love over duty.

ABILITIES:
• Elves are immortal and will live until the world ends or faces enough sorrow that her heart breaks. While elves are immortal, they are not invincible and can be killed or die from a fatal wound.

• Arwen is a Peredhel - or half-elven - meaning she can choose to forsake her immortality. This is a choice she makes for Aragorn, so she can have a single lifetime with him.

• Elves also are resistant to most types of weather - such as extreme cold and heat.

• They also tend to be faster healers and have heightened senses such as eyesight and hearing.

• They are incredibly light on their feet and don't require much sleep or food. They can walk on top of snow without leaving a footprint.

• They also have a deep connection with nature, able to understand trees and plants.

• Their incredible memories combined with long lives lead to a wide knowledge base as well.

• Elves are immune to disease and illness, although Arwen's case is different. Due to the evil poisoning the land around her, it has made her ill - the only solutions being the destruction of the one ring or sailing to the undying lands where the ring's presence cannot be felt.

• Arwen is the granddaughter of Lady Galadriel and the daughter of Lord Elrond, it is safe to say she inherited some of their abilities such as telepathy and foresight. Her father and grandmother are also skilled healers, so it can be assumed Arwen would have learned from them.

INVENTORY:

LOG SAMPLE:
She moves silently through the woods, book in hand. The sunlight kisses her skin, though she does not feel it's warmth. A war ravaged the lands around them, her safe haven growing darker with each day. Her eyes drift east for a moment as she reaches the crest of a hill, though her gaze does not linger. The darkness has grown since last she looked, an involuntary shudder running through her.

She presses on, enveloping herself more in her cloak in an attempt to stave off the chill. It is a fruitless effort, the chill radiating from within. She moves a little faster, fabric rustling against the fallen leaves with each step. There's a comfort beneath the familiar boughs of her home, travelling a little deeper before finally settling beneath them. She opens the book, eyes drifting over the page though she doesn't take in any of the words or thoughts set upon them.

Instead, her mind drifts to her love, worry for his safety weighing heavily on her heart. She knew the cost to her choice, could feel the life of the Eldar slowly leaving her with each passing moment. There was a finality to the path she'd chosen, the bitterness of mortality a cold companion in these dark times. Her eyes drift shut as a tear escapes with a small sigh, drawing within herself to find the strength to continue on.

She searches for the glowing sliver of hope, her faith that Aragorn would not fail - good would triumph.
